Piateda armchair

The “Piateda” Armchair is characterized by a simple structure in walnut and a leather seat made with the technique of “pezzotto”, the traditional carpet handmade in the Valtellina region, in the Alps, north of Milan.
In this region, still using traditional wooden looms (some of them are older than one hundred years), the craftmen produce old carpets using the waste material taken from the production of dresses nearby. Piateda is a village in the area where, along with other small villages nearby, began the tradition of hand-made “pezzotti” in the last century. For the seat of this armchair, instead of using cotton stripes, the craftmen used leather stripes in different colours coming from the waste of the leather upholstery production, but they still used their old machines to do this project.
